One in six New Zealanders are affected by some type of hearing loss and the World Health Organisation predicts this will grow to one in four by 2050. Your gift will help ensure that all New Zealanders with hearing loss or Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) will be able to enjoy a full life long into the future.
No amount is too small and we are most grateful for the donations we receive. It is our responsibility to you that we invest these donations prudently, to ensure the long-term future of our work.
Your donation will help us make a valuable difference in so many areas:
We consistently talk to MPs outlining the inequities for hearing aids and cochlear implants
We are project managing the Listen Hear NZ Research. Though this comprehensive research has never been done before in New Zealand, we are often asked for this information. By doing it, we will generate a better understanding of the cost and resource issues associated with hearing loss
This lack of data is a major obstacle to ensuring appropriate services are provided. In fact, it is regularly used as a barrier to service provision.
We have a cross-agency Captioning working group that is working towards establishing equal access for all on TV, Movies and Internet by working towards 100% captioning.
Understanding and Awareness
Regular campaigns are held during Hearing Week to profile hearing loss and hearing loss prevention strategies.
