The Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade was established in 1878 and our fire fighters continue to be 100% volunteer. We respond to an average of about 250 calls per year with the wider Wairarapa area which range from commercial, domestic and scrub fires, to motor vehicle accidents, rescues and medical incidents. We also have to turn out to the occasional cat up a tree, which while amusing, does have an impact on our employers and businesses.
The brigade is a registered charity and carries out fundraising activities for items that are not supplied by the Fire Service. We are currently looking at upgrading our van for transporting fire fighters to training events, and need to continue to maintain our rescue and cutting gear.
